Each day of Vacation Bible School, the children would enter the Workshop of Wonders and look for Philippe and his bucket. Why? They were eager to bring their offerings for the work of “Manos Juntas,” a mission of the Mexico Methodist Church and an Advance Special of the United Methodist Church. The children learned that the money they brought each day would go “bye bye” to Rio Bravo, Mexico, to help build modest homes for families who do not have adequate housing, provide education and nutritious food for children, and medical access through a local clinic.
During Sunday’sVBS celebration, Philippe invited members of the congregation to add their gifts to what the children had brought through the week. The end result? $808.73 sent from First United Methodist Church to Manos Juntas. “I’m so very proud of the children,” said Philippe, “they indeed proved once again our Lord’s words that the ‘little child shall lead them.'”
