As we prepare for the new school year, our children’s and youth ministries are busy preparing for the new year. We will have a variety of exciting opportunities for students in Dodge City. Below are a few important things to note as we dive into this new year.
A yearly back-to-school tradition at First UMC is the annual “Blessing of the Backpacks.” On Sunday, August 16th, all students, educators, staff, and administration who either work or study in our area schools and colleges will be recognized. Each is invited to bring a backpack, lunch bag, brief case, laptop or any other symbol of their school year to any worship service that morning. The service and blessing are open to anyone. As we bless the backpacks of each student, and school employee, it will help each of us to remember that God is with us in our education and work.
Following the blessing, a small keepsake will be given to each person that can be attached to backpacks or bags as a reminder of Christ’s presence with them over the coming school year.
In addition to the Blessing of the Backpacks, our children and youth will progress into their new class levels beginning Sunday, September 6.
