According to McLaren, “the title suggests that Christian faith is still ‘in the making.’ It continues to grow, evolve, learn, change, emerge, and mature … in and through us. Faith was never intended to be a destination, a status, a holding tank or a warehouse. Instead, it was to be a road, a path, a way out of old and destructive patterns into new and creative ones. As a road or a way, it is always being extended into the future.”
The group will meet immediately following the all-church meal on Wednesday evenings to explore a short 2 to 3 page reflection from the book each week. There is no cost, no required book to purchase and no homework. Participants simply come, read Scripture together, and listen to the evening’s reading—a short reflection based upon the Scriptures used. A guided discussion follows the readings.
McLaren’s invitation states, “If you’re seeking a fresh way to experience and practice your faith, if you’re a long-term Christian seeking new vitality, or if you feel out of place in traditional church circles, this book will inspire and activate you in your spiritual journey. Dare to venture off old maps into new, uncharted territory and discover how we make the road by walking.”
Anyone interested may simply come to the first Wednesday meal on September 3rd and remain for the group lesson. If you have questions or want additional information, please contact Pastor Lance Carrithers at the church office, 620-227-8181.
