After the catastrophic flooding in Houston and other areas of Southeast Texas this past week as Hurricane Harvey passed through the area, you may be finding yourself asking about how you can be of assistance. One way that you can help is to send flood buckets through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Flood buckets contain a number of specific items that will be needed in the coming weeks by those who are cleaning up after the disaster, and must contain exactly the items listed, since it has been found that these items are the most beneficial in times of severe flooding. You can find the list of items here. Our church is serving as a collection point for these buckets, so once you have collected the needed items and placed them in the bucket, simply bring it to the church. Buckets will need to be delivered by Tuesday, September 12, so that they will arrive in a timely manner.
If you are unable to prepare a flood bucket and would still like to be of assistance, you can mail a check (payable to Great Plains Conference) to Topeka Great Plains Conference Office, PO Box 4187, Topeka, KS 66604. Please write “UMCOR 901670” in the memo line.
